Hello, and welcome to the second of our jam-packed October coverdisks. We've plenty for you to enjoy.
The Mac Cover Disk Crew
Getting Started
In order to fit all the software on to a single disk, the programs have been compressed. To use them, you need to ‘extract’ them to your hard disk as follows:
1. Double-click on the floppy disk icon to open its window. Then double-click on the 'The Mac' icon.
2. Select the hard disk or server where you wish to save the shareware by clicking the Desktop button and highlighting the destination disk from the scrollable window.
3. Click the Extract button.
If you have a virus checker, disable it by restarting your Mac then immediately holding down the Shift key. When you've installed your new software, restart your Mac to switch your virus checker back on again.
Using the programs
All of the programs come with full documentation. However, here's a brief run-down of what each one does.
Dome Wars
A fun game which teaches children about angles and forces – and which adults will find frustratingly challenging too. Adjust the angle and force of your cannon to blow up your opponent.
Heritage
Plot your family tree. This program includes support for scanned pictures, and will display your ancestors in a traditional graph format.
Info Alley
This is Apple's official newsletter, published every month or so. It's fairly technical, but it includes loads of valuable information and is well worth a read – it's supplied as two plain text files. We plan to include new issues of Info Alley on our coverdisks as they are available, to make sure you are kept totally up to date on all matters Macintosh.
Marathon Cheater
If you're an addict of the game Marathon, you'll love this. It allows you to edit saved games, increasing your health, strength and so on. Cheat!
PowerPCheck
If you have a Power Mac, it's nice to know whether the programs you have are running in 'native' mode or not. This little utility will tell you – just drag your application's icon on to it.
ScrapIt Pro
A very versatile replacement for the standard Scrapbook. Far too many features to detail here – check it out!
Coverdisk Problems?
Returns
Should you have any reason to believe your disk is faulty, put it in a jiffy bag with two 19p stamps and send it to: The Mac Disk Returns, TIB plc, TIB House, 11 Edward Street, Bradford, BD4 7BH. If the error is a duplication error (ie. attributable to TIB), a replacement disk together with the 19p stamps will be returned to the reader within seven days of receipt. If the damage is not attributable to TIB, the stamps will cover postage costs.
Don't send disk back to The Mac at Dennis Publishing as we don’t hold spare disk stocks.
WARNING
This disk has been checked to ensure it's free from viruses. It has also been checked for compatibility with most types of Macs but we cannot be held responsible for any incompatibility with your Mac, system software, programs and data, and any problems that may result from such incompatibilities. Before installing any new software, you should always back up your hard disk.
